Collectivist Cultures

 

 Markus and Kitayama's description of collectivist or interdependent self is fundamentally connected to the social context.One's overall behavior and belief is defined by a group of people ,the people surrounding them.People in collectivist cultures make decisions about their lives based on the unexpressed thoughts,beliefs and feelings of the other person with which they have a relationship with

  Under the collectivist cultures we have Horizontal Collectivism and Vertical Collectivism,these are classified as the patterns for resource distribution.The Horizontal Collectivism has to do with emphasizing interdependence and testing the extent to which the individuals in the collectivist cultures practice interdependence.The Vertical Collectivism is also about assessing how far can individuals emphasize interdependence,the difference is that it also assesses the extent to which individuals emphasize competitions with other groups.
